Macular degeneration is a term that includes a variety of eye diseases that affect your central vision. Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the most common form of macular degeneration. Treatments offered include: intravitreal injections for EXUDATIVE (WET) age-related macular degeneration - Eylea,Eylea HD, Vabysmo, Lucentis, Avastin, Beovu; NON-EXUDATIVE (DRY) age-related macular degeneration with GEOGRAPHIC ATROPY (GA) - Syfovre, Izervay.
Diabetes mellitus is one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness worldwide. In the United States, it is the most common cause of blindness in people younger than 65 years. Treatments include intravitreal injections, laser treatments, and surgical management.
Retinal detachment is a sight threatening condition that is considered one of the few ocular emergencies. A retinal detachment can occur at any age, but it is more common in people over age 40. People who are near-sighted or have had previous eye surgery are at increased risk. Surgery is required to fix a retinal detachment.
Macular hole is when a circular opening forms in the area of your retina that is responsible for central vision. As the hole forms, things in your central vision will look blurry, wavy or distorted. As the hole grows, a dark or blind spot appears in your central vision. A macular hole does not affect your peripheral (side) vision. Surgery called vitrectomy is the best way to treat a macular hole. Part of the surgery requires placement of a gas bubble inside the eye. This bubble helps flatten the macular hole and hold it in place while your eye heals. The gas bubble slowly goes away on its own.
